Our Story
FAQ
Where is Black Bird Atelier located? We are located in a commercial office building in Burlington, MA. In order to protect the privacy of our community, we do not post our address on the website. We typically share our address with ticket holders to a specific event by emailing everyone 2 days before the class. If you're new to the community, then it is important to understand that Massachusetts is not very friendly to BDSM education, and therefore we must be discreet. Please note that nothing about Black Bird Atelier is illegal - but we still don't want our office neighbors harassing us for it!
Do I need to be a "vetted" member in order to take classes? Intro level classes (titled "Intro to _____" do not require a vetted membership. Social events and intermediate or advanced classes DO require a membership. Membership is free, discreet, and takes about 2 weeks to process, and can be found HERE.
Are there going to be a bunch of freaky naked people at these classes? No! Some classes are lecture-style and people wear regular clothing. Some classes are more hands-on, and we recommend athletic attire (like a yoga class). Every class/ event will have a recommended dress code so you don't have to worry! Nudity is NOT allowed at Black Bird Atelier for legal reasons (the exception being privately booked photoshoots, with fall under the category of fine art and receive special legal protection).
Is BDSM illegal in Massachusetts? It is not. However, it is illegal to attempt to use it as a defense for abuse. Black Bird Atelier focuses on education and community building to help people explore kink as safely as possible. We not support abuse. Please check out our POLICIES page for specifics.
Can I go if I don't have a partner? Yes! Most classes and events at Black Bird do NOT require a partner. If an class/event DOES require a partner, then the tickets will be sold per pair, and the event will specifically say so.
Is Black Bird just like the sexy party I saw in "Eyes Wide Shut"? Will there be a brick dungeon with spooky red lights like you see in the movies? No! That's just movie stuff. Our studio feels more like a yoga studio than what you might picture when someone says "dungeon." Our focus is education and community building.
